Lead difficult conversations with confidence
- Building the human capability to speak up, lead difficult conversations and understand how people perform within complex mining systems.
The PowerSkills Learning Journey
Build the confidence to recognise risk, make decisions and speak up.
- Our Human Performance program that builds the capabilities people need to recognise what is happening, make better decisions under pressure, speak up and intervene safely, while strengthening the leadership and organisational conditions that allow those behaviours to succeed.
- The goal is to develop situational awareness and build the muscle memory to respond effectively under pressure.
- It is the first step in building the confidence and psychological security miners need to develop systems thinking through a human lens. Our VR Immersive Learning focuses on developing the capability of managing difficult conversations that are often related to:
- 1. Work Design
- 2. Leadership and systems
- 3. Workplace Behaviours
- 4. Operating Environment.
Learn how to:
- actively listen
- communicate respectfully
- resolve conflict
- develop psychological safety for yourself and others
- Give and receive difficult feedback
- Self manage difficult situations
Many operational failures look technical. But most are human systems failures.
The next step is learning systems thinking not simply as a method for understanding process flow, technical dependencies or operational constraints, but as a way of understanding how systems shape human behaviour.
Participants learn to see how work design, production pressure, leadership, information flow, KPIs, procedures, fatigue, psychological safety and team norms interact to influence the decisions people make. The aim is not to remove personal accountability. It is to diagnose behaviour more intelligently so leaders can address the conditions that repeatedly produce it.
When the same problems keep recurring such as shift handovers that miss critical information and bottlenecks no one seems to own, it's rarely about competence of the individual. It's often more likely to be caused by leaders who haven't been equipped to see the full system.
This course develops the diagnostic thinking that helps leaders first understand the full system before they react to the problem.

Learn how to:
- identify the behaviours behind the real constraint slowing performance
- reduce recurring operational disruption
- understand workaround culture
- improve shift-to-shift flow
- anticipate problems earlier
- strengthen psychosocial safety through systems awareness
